We treat the whole Horse – not just the symptoms!
Hair Testing, Hair Analysis or Hair Assessment are such blanket terms, and cover a wide range of services. This causes much confusion for horse owners and trainers. Our service is very different from chemical hair testing or mass spectrometry.
The Horse Herbalist’s Founder, Angela Davison, pioneered a unique Hair Assessment system (also called Hair Testing) which she integrated into her practice in 1998. This is a non chemical method of discovery which aims to reveal the core issues in the individual horse’s performance problems/illness/discomfort/
Once those core issues have been revealed and understood, a focused treatment plan is proposed. A tailor made Medical Herbal and Flower Remedy Mixture is created for your horse which will facilitate a positive and permanent healing change within the body/mind continuum, rather than putting a band-aid on the problem.
Individual Treatment Plans are a critical path to excavating old issues, creating holistic routes to wellness and ease of movement and being.

A Unique, Bespoke, Horse Hair Assessment System:
This unique testing system covers your horse’s organs, body systems, musculo/skeletal system and joints. We discover how your horse rates his or her feeds & supplements (what works with one horse doesn’t necessarily suit another’s gastro-intestinal tract – this has proven to be invaluable information for the owner/trainer). Testing includes how your horse rates their physical energy, mental and emotional energy, environment, rider, discipline and more . . . Angela will give you a full spectrum of information giving deep insight into your horse.
We prefer that clients opt for the full 15 week treatment programme to ensure that we dig deep into the root causes of issues/problems and fix them for good. But we understand that budgetary constraints are real and you may want to ‘suck it and see’.
Remember our aim is always to facilitate a positive and permanent healing change.
By the end of the programme 80% of horses will be balanced and happy and we expect them to keep improving once the Herb/Flower Remedy treatment is finished. The possible exceptions are horses with joint/connective tissue injuries or nervous system issues – they may take a little longer.
Nutritional changes may be recommended and other therapies suggested in conjunction with or after this treatment programme ie Veterinary, Bodywork, Dentist, Farrier, Acupuncture, Chiropractor etc.
The shorter programmes provide a pathway for you & your horse to test the efficacy of the programme. We are confident that you will be happy with the extraordinary results we achieve time after time. Most of our clients remain with us through their lives!

After completing her unique Hair Assessment and made your unique Herbal Solution, Angela will be with you every step of the way for the 15 week treatment program, and will check in with you regularly.
The fee is all inclusive and includes:
Initial Hair Test and phone consult with Angela Davison.
First 7 weeks Medicinall Herb & Flower Essence custom treatment.
Re-assessment and test at 7 Week mark, inc phone consult.
Next 7 weeks medicinal herbal custom treatment.
Final check in at 15 weeks, and reassess if required.

Just wanting to check in on how your horse is traveling? Maybe you’ve had a treatment with Angela previously and want a re-check, or perhaps you’re pretty sure your horse is doing well, but just curious to know? Or perhaps your interested in the full 15 week program, but wanting to try out the first step before jumping in? This option gives you the chance to access Angela’s hair test and consult, without the 15 week program and treatment options.
The fee includes:

If any treatment plan or medications are required as a result of the assessment, these will be charged additionally to this fee, and can be added on after the consult if you wish, with no obligation.

When sending hair for testing, please collect a good switch of hair (ideally from the mane). At least 1cm thick either pulled out or cut close to the skin. Hogged mane horses send enough hair to cover a 20c piece.
Take the envelope with you to the horse and drop the hair immediately into the envelope and seal (no plastic bags please). It is helpful to label the envelope with the horse’s name before taking the hair sample.

Managing Cushings
Cushing’s Syndrome was diagnosed with my 13 year old dog Betty, in early 2018. Although I have total faith in my diagnosing vets, I was reluctant to have Betty on life-long drugs with significant side effects, combined with regular invasive blood testings to monitor her condition. I chose instead to have Angela offer a herbal alternative. We commenced this is February 2018. It is now end August 2018 and Betty is, with regular exercise, controlled diet and Angela’s herbal supplement, a much better old dog. Just wonderful natural Homeopathics
A couple of weeks ago Babette, my 12 year old goat, was head butted and slammed into the ground by my bigger goat and could not stand. It looked liked it was the end for her as she wasn’t trying to get up at all. But was still eating. Angela suggested to use a few of her magic herbs and homeopathics to try firstly, which helped a lot. She then did a quick hair assessment on her and made a miracle potion for my sweet goat.
